Skin Fades
Zero to whatever you're after — low, mid or high, blended tight with open razor edges. Bring a photo or trust the chair; either way you leave sharp.
FROM $55Richmond · VIC · Est. 2019
Skin fades. Beard work. Hot-towel shaves. No fluff — just a proper cut.
Swan Street, Richmond — walk in, or book a chair and skip the wait.
What we do
We don't do everything. We do fades, beards and shaves — every day, all day, until they're second nature. That's the standard.
Zero to whatever you're after — low, mid or high, blended tight with open razor edges. Bring a photo or trust the chair; either way you leave sharp.
FROM $55Sculpt, line-up and taper with hot lather on the neckline. We shape to your face, not a stencil, and finish with oil so it sits right all week.
FROM $35The full ritual: hot towels, pre-shave oil, a straight-razor pass with the grain and one against, cold towel, balm. Forty minutes. Worth it.

Word on the street
★★★★★
"Been chasing a barber who can actually do a proper skin fade since I moved from Sydney. Found him. Dean takes his time on the blend and the razor line-up at the end is chef's kiss."
★★★★★
"Walked in on a Saturday expecting an hour wait, was in a chair in 15 minutes. Cut was unhurried anyway. Beer while you wait doesn't hurt either."
★★★★★
"Booked the hot-towel shave before my wedding. Forty minutes of not thinking about anything, walked out with the closest shave of my life. Groomsmen all went the week after."
★★★★☆
"Only reason it's not five stars is I can never get a Saturday booking after 10am — book early. Cut itself is the best I've had in Melbourne, and I've been through a few."
The details
The Standard opened in 2019 in an old bootmaker's shopfront on Swan Street. Four barbers, four chairs, no music you'd hear in a shopping centre. We cut with clippers, shears and open razors — and we sharpen our own.
Owner Dean Carmody has held shears for 14 years, the last six of them here. Every barber on the floor is qualified — no training-chair surprises on your head.
